Welcome to my classroom!

Hello parents and students! I am so excited to start a new year with you! Let me tell you a little about myself. I am originally from Akron,Ohio. Yes, the home of Lebron James:) I have been in N.C. since 2007. I actually moved down here for a teaching job. I have two beautiful daughters. My oldest daughter is 11 and her name is Alasia. She will be attending Knightdale High School as a 9th grader this year. I also have a 6 year old and her name is Naiya. She will  be in 1st grade!   I have been teaching for a total of 9 years. All nine years I have taught 2nd grade. This will be my 7th year at Youngsville! Some of my hobbies are reading, watching funny movies, spending time with my family, and I can't forget to mention shopping! I love teaching and each year is a new opportunity to reinvent yourself as a teacher, try new ideas, and incorporate new things into the classroom. I look forward to an exciting year!

                                                My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all children can learn and grow. It is my mission to provide a loving and stable environment that will allow students to reach their full potential. It is my goal to take each student from their level and move them as far ahead as I can academically, socially and emotionally. I believe students need hands-on, meaningful experiences to help them make sense of their world. I will provide many opportunitesfor students to work to work with manipulatives and to work independently. I will challenge students and teach them to become independent learners and thinkers.  I must create developmentally appropriate lessons that engage students and allow them opportunities to question, explore and discuss their findings with others. I must differentiate my lessons in order to meet the needs of all of my learners. I believe I have to be fair and consistent, and to me, being fair means giving students what they need rather than treating each child exactly the same. I believe students have many roles in education. Students must actively participate in and take responsibility for their learning. I believe students need to become self-reflective, so they can improve upon areas of difficulty and build upon areas of strength. They must learn to work cooperatively as well as independently in order to become productive members of society. I believe parents should be involved in their child’s education both in and out of the classroom. I will make every effort to communicate with parents ways they can be more involved.  I really enjoy what I do and hope that I can be one of many teachers that makes a difference in your child's life.

Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students.
